I was one of those kids who always had her nose buried in a book. Getting lost in a story, in another person's life, was just so much more fun than anything going on in the real world. Through printed words, I was able to learn about history, go on adventures, solve mysteries, and even fall in love.

There are so many beloved stories from my childhood, I couldn't begin to name them all, but I do remember the first book that grabbed a hold of me and refused to let go: Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I remember feeling as if I'd found magic, which, of course, I had. So it came as no shock to anyone in my life when I decided to become a writer. It took a while, but eventually, I received the call and sold my first book. I've sold others since then, but that first call will forever live in my memory as another form of magic.

I feel extraordinarily lucky to spend my days (and often, my nights) writing books that others might find magical. And yes, I still spend plenty of hours with my nose buried in a book. Something I hope never changes.
